  A very interesting auction house that serves as a great events space. The main floor was expansive and had room for multiple bar stations and food areas. The antiquities were beautiful and it was a very classy setup to have a cocktail reception.

  Regrettably Weschler's education of the forms and standards of what comprises good and great photography hasn't kept up with the current of curators' and museums' views. I wonder what their judgements would be if they actually spent time at the great museums and galleries of the world, even just on the two coasts of the US. I uncovered a prejudice against cropping that one of the appraisers felt was done post image capture. Tsk tsk. Who cares whether a crop is done in camera or in the computer? The idea that a photographer can frame an image in a radical departure of standard framing of faces or the human landscapes is not prejudicial to the assessment of the value of an image. They need a year of immersion with Andy Grundberg, Philip Roth just to name two Washington photo hands. This prejudice was the silliest thing I've heard in years, Weschler's is stuck in a mid-twentieth century mores that has long been abandoned. And they are considered an authoritative arts voice in Washington. A shame.
